Create an Atelier Art Studio in an Unfinished Basement
A client of mine recently asked me to organize her basement workspace in the most affordable way possible. Obviously music to my ears. Her basement had basically turned into a "catch all" for the house and while she does have plans to finish it properly in the future (when budgets permit) she needed a solution for the short term. We decided to create an atelier art studio in her unfinished basement and here's how we did it.
Okay here is a photo of the before (it has nightmare vibes, definitely not what she was going for). This work bench was here when she moved and the previous homeowner left a bunch of tools and knick knacks behind. Our plan was to pull out the workbench so she could work on either side of it, paint the cabinetry and just organize things. We grouped liked things together and got boxes for paint, electrical, small hand tools, adhesive etc. Scroll down to the see the after.
Before:
We painted the workbench and cabinet in Dolphin Grey by Benjamin Moore, laid-down some octagon self adhesive wallpaper on the floor, painted the shelves black, added some striped storage boxes and added a new light.

I love that peel and stick wall paper for the floor. How did you prep the floor? I think this could be a great solution for the unfinished portion of our basement, but I know our concrete is not perfectly smooth.
ReplyDeleteMy floor wasn't perfectly smooth either so the peel and stick is not perfect in spots but it's definitely an improvement from what I had. I gave the floor a good scrub prior to putting down the peel and stick. Hope that helps : )
