DIY Concrete Christmas Trees

A few weeks ago my friend sent me a pic of some cute concrete Christmas trees she had found online. I thought they would make the perfect DIY Christmas gift for my family and friends (since we're trying to keep costs down this year). After noodling it a bit I figured out how I would make these DIY concrete Christmas trees and got to work.

To make these cute mini Christmas trees I used some dispensable cone cups, red plastic cups (I think we're all familiar with these), black paint, scotch tape, hot glue, a stir stick and Plaster of Paris (I know, I know, I called these "concrete trees" but Plaster of Paris is so much more forgiving).

I centered three cone cups each inside three red cups using scotch tape. Then I used a different red cup to  mix the plaster (2 parts plaster powder to 1 part water). I added a drop of black paint and stirred until it had the consistency of a thick milkshake.  I poured the mixture into the cone cup and added another cone in the center (if it doesn't stay put add some weight inside the cup like a marble or something). The plaster sets fairly quickly but needs 24hrs to cure. Once cured I pulled off the paper cone inside and around the set plaster. I stacked the plaster cones and used hot glue to adhere the wooden star to the top.

I love the way they turned out. Stayed tuned tomorrow for a peak at my Christmas table and how I will be incorporating these DIY concrete Christmas trees into the festivities. Be sure to follow me on Instagram for your daily dose of DIY inspiration.
