2017 Bathroom Design Trends

by - 17:09:00

I was recently asked to contribute along with 6 other talented designers in Style at Home's 2017 Decor and Design Trends round up. There were three trend articles; bathrooms, kitchens and overall trends. For the next few days, I'll be sharing my featured Style at Home trend on the blog and expanding on a few others. Below are my Top 5 Bathroom Trends for 2017.

1. Mosaic Tile Accent Walls (as featured on Style at Home)
Accent walls have been around for a while but traditional accent walls have been achieved with paint or wallpaper. In 2017, we'll see mosaic glass tiled accent walls. From over-sized florals, plaid, confetti bursts and subtle damask prints, the small squares of the mosaic glass tile offer a cool pixelated look, tipping its hat to today's digital world. Whether behind a free-standing tub, shower or bathroom floor, the mosaic tile accent wall can add a whimsical wow factor into any bathroom.

2. Dark Teal
Rich dark teal can add soul to any room and more specifically in a bathroom it can add romance and drama. Plus, it pairs well with any metal. A great colour to consider in this realm is Para Paints colour of the year "Enigmatic Triton (P5105-75)".

3. Faux Fur
A big trend for bathrooms in 2017 will be faux fur. Adding a bit of faux fur in a bathroom layers in texture and creates a sense of warmth and coziness. The key is to not go overboard - for example, obviously avoid any type of fur carpeted floors.

4. High-Level Toilets and Wooden Toilet Seats.
Following the theme of "everything old is new again" the high level toilet is making a come-back. This classic show stopper will have people talking about your bathroom. And, if you don't have the space consider a wooden toilet seat to achieve that old world look.
PS - I'm also secretly obsessed with this mercury glass wall.

5. Mixing Metals, Colours and Collections
This trend has been around for a while and doesn't seem to be going anywhere. We will continue to see gold, oil rubbed bronze and even white faucets/ shower heads. These days anything goes. Just pick what you like and go for it. Next week I'll be sharing my bathroom makeover on the blog where I used the Delta Lahara Collection in both Champagne Bronze and Venetian Bronze and I love it!
